Fixing referral form option mismatches between Boon and Greenhouse

When referral form options exist in Boon but not in Greenhouse, candidate and referring employee data may fail to sync correctly between the two platforms. This commonly occurs when a Boon referral form includes an option (such as "Other") that does not have a corresponding value configured in Greenhouse.

Why does this happen?

Boon syncs referral data to Greenhouse by mapping form responses to matching field values in Greenhouse. If a referrer selects an option in Boon that doesn't exist as a corresponding custom field value in Greenhouse, that data cannot be transferred, resulting in empty or missing fields on the Greenhouse side.

How to resolve the mismatch

There are two ways to address this issue, depending on your preferred workflow:

Option 1: Add the missing value to Greenhouse

Add the missing option (e.g., "Other") as a custom field value in Greenhouse. This approach:

• Will retroactively populate previously submitted referrals where that option was selected

• Allows future referrers to continue selecting that option and have it sync correctly to Greenhouse

This is the recommended option if the form choice is meaningful and you want to preserve historical referral data.

Option 2: Remove the option from the Boon referral form

Remove the unsupported option from the Boon referral form. This approach:

• Will leave already-submitted referrals that selected that option with a blank field — this data cannot be recovered retroactively

• Prevents future referrers from selecting an option that won't sync to Greenhouse

This option is best if the form choice is no longer needed and you want to keep your forms clean going forward.
