Why does my referral show as "Ineligible" or "Rejected" even though the candidate was hired?

Last updated: July 18, 2026

You submitted a referral for a candidate who has since been hired or received an offer, but your referral status in Boon is showing as Ineligible or Rejected. You may be wondering why this is happening and what steps you can take to address it.

Answer

Boon does not have visibility into your company's internal hiring decisions or referral payout eligibility determinations — these are managed by your internal admin or HR/People team. If you believe your referral status is incorrect, there are two ways to address this:

Option 1: Contact your admin team directly

Reach out to your internal HR or People team to inquire about the referral status and payout eligibility for the candidate in question.

Option 2: Submit a dispute through Boon

You can raise a dispute directly within your Boon account by following these steps:

  1. Go to Payments > Ineligible.

  2. Hover over the referral entry on the far right and click Dispute.

  3. Select the reason for your dispute and leave a comment explaining the situation.

  4. Submit the dispute — it will be sent directly to your admin team for review.

Your admin team will then be able to review the dispute and update your referral status if appropriate.
